Perez Hilton has been synonymous with entertainment gossip for the last 15 years.  Surprisingly, the blogger fully acknowledges people’s hatred has only fueled his success.

The king of gossip stopped by the Hollywood Pipeline Podcast with Dax Holt and Adam Glyn to talk about his rise to the top. According to Perez, the blog started out as a pass time hobby and quickly turned into a full-time gig.

In the beginning, Perez’s crude humor and sassy tone quickly set him apart. He became known for drawing penises on celebrities faces and drool dripping down their mouth. Not exactly what celebrities appreciated. However, this negative attention thrust him into the spotlight.

Hilton recounted a moment when he knew he had made it. He was approached by a TV show, only months after starting his blog, to be featured in their list of the ‘Top Ten Most Hated Websites in Hollywood.’ He remembers telling them he’d rather be number one than ranked any lower.  After this, Hilton began branding himself as ‘Hollywood’s Most Hated Website.’

Ever Wonder What Happened to TMZ’s Blonde Surfer Guy?

Clearly it worked out for the writer who began making money hand over fist.  Hilton recalled his first big website-crashing story. It was a set of stolen photos showing Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on the beach, confirming their relationship.  He explained what exactly went down and the lawsuits that ensued.

Hilton also spoke of the most surreal moment in his career. To him, it was the time his idol Madonna invited him to one of her concerts and actually knew who he was. You have to listen to him explain how it unfolded.

Anyone who’s followed Hilton’s site knows he loves music.  He famously helped introduce the world to Lady Gaga and even made cameos in Rihanna‘s S&M music video as well as Britney Spears‘ Circus World Tour opening montage.

We asked him were his relationship stands with Gaga these days, he was a bit mum on the topic but wished her well.

These days, Perez’s life is much different. He’s now a father of three, supporting his mother and running and running his empire. He admitted children have changed his view on celebrity news. He no longer runs children’s faces on his website and has a bit more compassion in his heart.
