Actress Ruby Rose stepped out on the set of CW‘s new Batwoman TV pilot being filmed in Chicago.
This new series isn’t going to be your typical superhero show though. Kate Kane a.k.a Batwoman will be openly gay, making the character the first-ever superhero series to be led by a lesbian character.
Rose, who’s openly gay, was strategically chosen to fill the role. Not only is she a good actress, but it also allows a gay actor to portray a gay role. This issue gets raised every time gay characters are played by straight actors.
Ruby commented on landing the role, telling TV Week “I can’t speak on behalf of everyone in the LGBTIQ community, but I know any win for anyone in our community is a win for all.”
According to reports, this show wasn’t an easy sell and took “a while” for Warner Brothers and DC to get on board.
Ruby was pictured in a pair of ripped jeans, leather jacked and a pair of black boots. In the scene you see the actress pull up on a motorcycle in a run down area of Gotham.
For those of you trying to figure out Batwoman’s connection to Batman – she’s Bruce Wayne‘s cousin.
A few weeks ago we got our first look at production as the crew filmed on the steps of the Vancouver museum sans Ruby.
Ruby first made a name for herself as Stella Carlin on Netflix‘s Orange is the New Black.
