Jennifer Hudson filming Aretha Franklin‘s biopic Respect with Marlon Wayans in Manhattan’s Harlem neighborhood and initial reports are she’s a dead ringer for the legend!
Hudson and co-star Wayans filmed a scene where Ted White (Marlon) collects money from prostitutes as a young Aretha Franklin (Jennifer) patiently waits in the car for the pimp to collect his money before sharing a kiss in the car.
The Oscar-winning actress and co-star were already giving award-worthy performances on the first day of shooting as they wore full costumes and filmed an intense scene as Harlem was transformed into the 1960s era.
Respect follows the legendary life of the late R&B singer, Aretha Franklin, and was approved by her before she passed in August of 2018 — Harvey Mason Jr. worked closely with her before her passing and told USA magazine — “My duty is to do something that really honors Aretha and treats her in the manner I have been accustomed to dealing with her. I have a good feel for what she likes and doesn’t like. My whole goal is to do something … her fans would be proud of and something that stands up to her legacy.”
